Letter To My Younger Self : Self-Worth

Dear younger me,
I hope you are feeling proud of how far you have come in your journey. Today, I want to share how you have grown in understanding your self-worth.
You know, it was never easy to just breathe freely when there were so many people around you ready to validate your actions and achievements. Even when you did not ask, people would step in to take credit for your success or tell you how things could have been done better, often diminishing your efforts in both good and difficult times. Over the years, I have learned that self-worth is not measured by other people’s validation. Let me tell you when this truly became clear to me.
One night, I called a friend to share that I had received an opportunity to participate in my first open mic. The conversation took an unexpected turn, and I ended the call feeling hurt and regretting that I had shared my happiness. That was the last time I allowed someone to take away my joy. It was a step I will always be proud of. In the process, I lost a friend, but I found my confidence and began to understand the true value of self-worth.
You have often done things the way others expected you to. Yet, I remember how happy you felt during those rare moments when you chose your own way. Taking inspiration from that version of you, and holding on to your dreams, I realized it was important to take charge of my life and focus on self-worth rather than seeking external validation.
Thank you for allowing me to go through this journey. I am deeply grateful for all the lessons I have learned because of you.
Yours truly,
The one who now values her self-worth
