Letter To My Younger Self : Courage

Dear younger me,

I hope you are having a good time, just as I am, with all the traits I have developed over time while growing up. Today, this letter is dedicated to courage. I am glad that all the fears of losing someone, being left alone, losing a contest, and whatever else bothered you once are no longer a problem. You have learned to take one step ahead every time you feel pulled back in your journey.

You know, it wasn’t a one-day task or an easy feat to be courageous in this journey where everyone is schooling you about one thing or another. But now you know it is okay to step out of the rooms where you are less required. Three things that I want to tell you about what courage has taught you:

  • Loneliness is a choice, not a crime or punishment.

  • Self-worth is primary, not the last thing on your list.

  • Boundaries matter more than ever before.

I feel proud to say that you win hearts not by pleasing people, but by being yourself, the way you are, the unfiltered you. Even if you fail, you handle it gracefully, because now you are not trying to win for others’ sake, so you do not feel bad about failure just because you were afraid of what people would think. The best part is not giving up. That is what I love about you, and that is how I am. I am trying to get over my fear of dogs. I am sure one day I will walk fearlessly even when dogs are on the road.

I want to thank you for helping me become the person I am today. There are days when I feel sad about how people have treated me or still do, but then I remind myself that I chose my happiness, so why should I be bothered about what others think of me? Now, courage is a new comfort for me, even if it makes heads turn in awkward or tough situations.

Yours badass,

Tanvi

  1. Coincidently, my post for C is on courage too.

Winning people by being yourself is pretty tough, I'd say.
