Nupur grew up in a joint family. She had everyone in her family, including her parents, siblings, cousins, uncle, aunt, and grandparents. But her mother was not her biological mother; she was her stepmother, Priya. Nupur loved everyone deeply in her family, but her siblings belonged to her stepmother. They did not like her. They would try every way to tease her, cause trouble for her, and make their father punish Nupur.
When Priya came to Nupur's house after marrying her father, she tried to never let Nupur feel left out, and showered all her love. But as her twins were born, things changed. Nupur's life became difficult. Even after her efforts to help Priya with taking care of her twin siblings, she was left out. Priya would often ask her to stay away from kids because she thought Nupur would hurt them. Once even when Nupur was sitting by their side, and protecting them from mosquitoes, Priya saw her and made her portray it as if she was trying to hurt them. She shouted at her and asked her to leave the room. As she yelled, other people from the family came to her room and saw Priya yelling at Nupur, Nupur was sobbing hysterically, scared and timid. Her uncle, Arjun took her in his embrace and asked Priya about the matter.
Arjun consoled Nupur and took her out of the room. He did not believe her mother and asked Nupur about what happened. "Chachu, I was not hurting them, I was trying to shoo away the mosquitoes. I am not lying. I love them." Nupur told him. He hugged her and told her that she trusted her. To lift her mood, he told her that he would take her for ice cream. She smiled and nodded.
It was not the last incident for Nupur. Similar such happenings made her life difficult. Left with no resort, Priya asked her husband, Dilip to send Nupur to the hostel, as she believed Nupur was getting troublesome with each passing day.
Priya: Dilip, I have tried everything to keep Nupur happy. But now I am fed up with her behavior. She keeps nagging my kids. You have to send her to the hostel.
Dilip: (hugging her) My dear wifey, do not get angry. You look funny when you are angry.
Priya: I am serious, Dilip. Please listen to me or I will go back to my parent's house, if you will not send her to the hostel.
Dilip: Ok, ok. I will do it. Do you have any boarding schools in mind where we can send her?
Nupur was listening to their conversation, and tears started brimming in her eyes, and she left for her room. She ran to her room, and a vase fell on the way which distracted Dilip and Priya. They came out to check and noticed a hair clip outside their room. They looked at each other and realized Nupur's presence. "Has she heard our conversation?" Dilip questioned. "Shit, it cannot happen," Nupur said.
