Separated by whim and brought together by destiny.
Who would act stronger whim or destiny? Mr. and Mrs. Sharma used to think when their only daughter Shruti lost trust in love. When she left the city to build her career, which was an excuse as they perceived it because they knew she wanted to go away from Karan and all the old memories she created with him in the city.
Shruti was struggling in Mumbai to find her calling as a theatre artist. She used to attend many plays in different theatres including Prithvi Theatre, Rangshila, and many more. She also tried to attend storytelling open mics in different locations but did not find luck in getting in touch with the director who could allow her a chance to showcase her acting.
"Maa, please understand, I will manage everything. Soon, I will start getting opportunities. I am working part-time to manage my finances. Please stop worrying about me." Shruti told her mother. "Beta, we know how difficult it is to survive in a dream city. Your papa will send you the expenses for this month. Please accept it, and don't return like you did last time." Mrs. Sharma tried to convince her. Shruti guffawed, but having no choice she agreed and hung up the call.
When all this was happening, Karan was living his life in another world. He went to London to complete his master's in journalism. He specializes in public relations and storytelling. Little did he know that his career would bring him back to her love Shruti. After completing his master's, Karan returned to India, and to his surprise, he got a job in Mumbai.
The first thing he did after reaching his home from foreign land was to visit Shruti's parents. He knew that she was in Mumbai. Mr. and Mrs. Sharma greeted and blessed him. Mrs. Sharma set a table with a black coffee for him, and two tea cups for herself and Mr. Sharma with all Karan's favorite snacks. "Aunty, you still remember my choices. That's the reason I love you." Karan exclaimed. They laughed.
While savouring snacks, Karan revealed that he got a job in Mumbai. Mr. and Mrs. Sharma were relieved to hear that as they thought now their daughter would not be alone in that big city. Karan looked at their faces and asked, "Is Shruti doing well? Your faces don't tell me that." Mr. and Mrs. Sharma exchanged looks. Finally, Mr. Sharma broke the silence and started telling Karan everything that happened when he left, "You know before you left Shruti moved to Mumbai. It has been more than a year and she still did not get the job. I don't know how she is surviving. She doesn't even accept when I send her money." There were tears in his eyes.
Karan was shocked to hear it, and a part of him felt guilty about what led to this. Coming out of his thoughts he told them that now he was back, he would set everything right. "I have a flight tomorrow to Mumbai. I will visit her first thing. Give me her address." Karan assured them.
Mr. and Mrs. Sharma looked at each other and then at Karan. He understood that Shruti would have told them to not share her address. "Aunty, I will set everything right. Trust me." Karan told her. Mr. Sharma penned down the address and extended his hand to pass the slip to Karan. Karan left for his home. He informed his parents that he would go to Mumbai the next day. They were surprised as he told them he had to join a week later. They tried to ask for reasons but he simply told them that he had to complete some formalities in office before joining.
The flight took off at 5 p.m. Karan landed in Mumbai at around 7:30 p.m. He took out the address from his pocket and learned by heart while waiting for his luggage on a conveyor belt.
The weather was pleasing, the clouds were dark. He remembered how Shruti used to tell him that Mumbai rains were unpredictable. He reached her location. He tried to find her house number but there were many houses with missing numbers so he had to walk down counting the house number. As he reached his destination, he stood there to compose himself and prepared himself to finally meet her. Shruti came out of the auto behind him. She saw him staring at her building.
Karan changed his hairstyle and was different from how he looked when she saw him last. And to add to it Shruti could only see his back. She went closer and when she was about to tap on his shoulder, he turned and she tripped off falling in his arms. To no surprise, Mumbai rains added to their momentum. While Karan was holding her in her arms. They looked into each other's eyes when Karan expressed, "Shruti, you have put on weight." Shruti handled herself and stood. Karan pulled her closer, and their eyes met once again. Their lips came closer and it happened. They kissed passionately.
