Blogchatter A2Z: Homelessness

"Home is where you belong."

Rahul came to "Home For All" at the age of three. The orphanage caretaker Radha found him near the stairs in a basket, crying. She could not resist taking him inside because of his welcoming smile. She adored and fed him, wondering if he might be hungry for days. Rahul embraced her for the warmth she showered on him.

With time, Rahul got along with other kids. "Home For All" had different wings based on age to ensure every child gets enough care and attention. Radha handed Rahul to the supervisor, Siya, from the preschool section in an orphanage. Siya tried to convince Radha not to admit the new kid as they did not have enough resources to accommodate more kids. But Radha did not listen and told her they would manage.

Soon, Siya made Rahul comfortable with other kids in bed and made him sleep. He slept peacefully, and she could not resist adoring him while sleeping. Rahul slept for ten hours straight, but after waking, Rahul started crying. Siya tried to console him, but he did not calm down until Radha took him in her arms and caressed him. Siya felt amazed, but she realized Radha's warmth and touch were soothing.

Even after age-based division, Rahul would live with Radha. He slept, ate, and played with Radha. There was a unique bond between the two. As Rahual grew up, he started understanding about his life. He would question Radha about her parents, but she could not answer, and it saddened her because she felt helpless seeing Rahul sad.

Seven years later.

One day, a couple came to adopt a kid from "Home For All." They wished to adopt a kid of age ten years. Radha took them to the section of kids in this age group, and Rahul followed her. The children tidied up to show up before the couple for them to choose one kid to become his parents. When the couple went to the children with Radha, every kid wished to get adopted, but the woman's heart stuck at Rahul's adorable smile. She asked Radha about him. After learning about Rahul, she announced that she would adopt Rahul.

Radha felt sad as she did not ever think about Rahul getting adopted. She never wondered about this scenario. When Radha heard the woman's decision, she saw Rahul lovingly who was busy playing with other kids, and tears flowed through her cheeks. The woman inquired if she had any problem. Radha wiped the tear from the back of her hand and told her she was alright. She got emotional as Rahul used to stick to her for the past seven years, and now it was time for him to leave "Home For All."

The woman conveyed that if Radha was not ready, they could come later. But she insisted on adopting Rahul. Radha informed her that she could not be selfish. After all, Rahul also deserved a home. She understood what homelessness felt like because she was also an orphan who grew up living and thinking about homeless kids and came up with the idea of "Home For All."

  1. Feeling happy for Rahul but also sad for Radha as she will lose someone she had raised like her own son for the past seven years
