Summer Nights by Romila Chitturi is a collection of 25 prompt poems engraved with connectedness that the poet felt with each title she chose.

Book Blurb

Summer Nights is a book of poems that the poet wrote during nights of summer of 2023. It is a prompt poetry book which has a collection of 21 poems that she wrote in response to a series of prompts or stimuli. The prompts were taken from the internet and various writing communities on Instagram. They are form of words, phrases, images, or situations, and inspired her to create new work which is presented in this book. Most of the prompts she used are focused on a sentence, theme or phrase. Writing this book was a great way to challenge herself, experiment with new styles and techniques, and explore new themes and ideas. The poems vary in style and form, but mostly they are free verse. For her poems are a powerful medium for self-expression, reflection, and exploration. It can capture a range of emotions, experiences, and perspectives, inviting readers to see the world in a new way and connect with the deeper truths and complexities of the human experience. She tried doing the same through this book.

Review

Summer Nights is a collection of 21 prompt poems engraved with connectedness that the poet felt with each title she chose.

In this book, the reader will dive into emotions and connect with things, places, nature, and feelings. Each title fits with the poetic magic the poet carves in her verses.

The book is a mesmerizing experience for the readers. There are many things that the readers will find unforgettable in this book. These include:

  • The reader will sing along each line of the verses due to the lyrical approach of writing.

  • The book, being prompt poems, has various themes, including galaxy, places (like Hyderabad, library, and home), night, things (like a coffee machine), abstraction, and many more.

  • The reader will feel connected with each poem as every piece is from real life.

  •  From the conversation of the sun and the moon to the laziness of Sunday and summer nights, the reader will live each verse in a different world from the eyes of the poet, or say, from the poet's heart.

The poet's evocative language and thought-provoking titles foster a deep connection with the existing world. She left no stone unturned in putting her heart in all the poems. The attribute that captivated me towards reading this book is the lyrical rhythm of her poetry.

I recommend this book to poetry lovers to dive into the emotions, connectivity and existence through the poems.
