BlogchatterA2Z: Be Consistent
![]() |
Starting to achieve something never goes easy. In the previous chapter, you read about the first step to having a happy life. Proceeding towards the "B" of happy life comes “Be Consistent.”
Now that you have started, what to do next? How to keep it going? These two questions will be the roadblocks.
Consistency is the key to success. You might have come across this quote several times in life. But do you remember how many times you failed to achieve this? I am sure you would have started counting on this. Generally, it happens with the goals you set in life. It feels like you are living a defined lifestyle, and you regard it as a trap, and a break comes in between your goal and yours.
Discipline makes conquering your desire easy, consequently making it difficult to follow suit (trying that new trend in the market) due to the commitments you set.
Let me give an example. Suppose you have a defined sleep cycle as per your daily routine. There comes a day when you get an invitation to party with your friends. It is a situation where you feel stuck and reluctantly decide to choose the party over your commitment leading to a disturbed sleep cycle. Due to a lack of sleep or delayed sleeping hours, you miss your schedule and feel demotivated for the day. But the twist is the effect lasts for a couple of days, and consistency breaks.
What if the reverse happened? There would be two scenarios in the reverse case, either you would be working according to your routine the next day, following the same till you achieve your goal, i.e., discipline makes your life easy. Another situation would be you keep thinking about the party and distract yourself from commitment cursing yourself for not attending the party.
Wait, wait, wait, do not scratch your head.
Let me ease it for you. As mentioned above, discipline makes it easy to conquer goals. Indeed it does. In the reverse situation, self-control wins if you prefer the first scenario. The second scenario of the reverse condition or your decision to attend the party will lead to unfavorable conditions to achieve your goals. Hence, it becomes challenging to follow suit, i.e., trend.
Time to answer the questions mentioned at the beginning of this chapter:
- What to do next?
After you start, the next thing is to be consistent with your decision. There will be points where you will feel you are not enjoying your life and do otherwise. But you have to follow what you start in your life.
2. How to keep it going?
If there comes a circumstance to break the defined system, follow the exercise below:
Draw the table.
Write down the advantages and disadvantages of the current and the new plans.
If the pros overcome the cons, think and draft a situation if the consistency breaks. If you feel confident that you can overcome that condition, you can choose to go against your system.
If the cons overcome the pros, without a doubt, you should choose to stay intact with your current plan.
It is a short exercise to decide the best for you. Stay consistent, or take a break to come back to be consistent.
The conclusion of “Be Consistent” is:
To lead a happy life, you should believe in your instincts and work accordingly, being consistent in what you choose. You will stand out of the queue if you know where you
are going.
Find an opportunity wherever you decide to go.
These are great tips and I've always believed in the power of consistency :)
