BlogchatterA2Z: Walking Away From Toxicity

Life came full circle when Karma showed Anita the consequences of the wrongs done to her.

Anita and Sakshi were childhood buddies, born and raised in the same neighborhood. Anita trusted Sakshi blindly and vice-versa. When they moved from their hometown to a different city for college, things changed unexpectedly. Sakshi made new friends and tried to show off every time she went with them to new places, cafes, shopping malls, etc. Though Anita tried to show her happiness seeing Sakshi enjoying it, Sakshi used to think Anita was jealous of her new friends.

Many months passed of them being away from their hometown. What they thought of being a happy and independent place turned out to be a jail for Anita. She often found herself being dragged with Sakshi to fulfill what she wanted to do as per her convenience.

Lost in her world, Sakshi did not see anyone else before her. She never realized what she was doing with Anita. Anita, like a good friend, always stood by her side. But it did not last for long as Anita realized she was only being pulled and she was not interested in everything that Sakshi wanted to do.

Looking for a purpose, Anita finally decided to move on and follow her calling, her goal in life rather than getting used as per convenience. She felt Sakshi was old enough to make her decisions, and she needed not to babysit her. She was done with her toxicity and her circle.

With a renewed sense of achieving her goals, Anita joined the music club in her college. She would spend her spare time in the music room and made new friends who were like-minded and helped her in growth. She enjoyed her life and got happier than before. Most often Sakshi would see her hanging out with her friends from the music club and mock her for her choice and laugh at her group. Anita never said anything to her and would try to laugh with her.

The annual college fest was around the corner, and everyone was busy preparing for contests. Sakshi chose a fashion show, while Anita joined a college band. They were busy and could not get time to meet each other. The preparation was going on in full swing. One night, when Anita returned to her room, she found Sakshi in a poor condition. She noticed she was inebriated. She was lying on the floor, unable to get up.

Sakshi saw Anita with puffy eyes and started crying badly. Anita sat beside her and put her head on her lap, caressing her. Sakshi sobbed and Anita could not hold it. She held Sakshi and hugged her. She tried to console her and assured her to stay by her side. Sakshi mumbled beneath her breath but Anita did not understand what she was saying. Having no choice, she shushed her and tucked her in bed.

While Sakshi was asleep, Anita was wondering how to figure out what Sakshi was going through. She dozed off, lost in thoughts.

  2. I could connect so well with your story and with Anita. After my husband passed my closest 4 friends, I knew since I was a teenager, treated me like an outcast. It took me 17 years to walk away from their toxicity and move to Hyderabad. Now they miss and call me often!
