BlogchatterA2Z: Chasing Wrong Dreams

Sapna, born and brought up in a middle-class family, always dreamed of building an empire for her family someday. Her mother, Sakshi, would find her lost in thoughts with a pen in one hand, the other used to rest her chin, and a notebook on her lap, looking in one direction for hours. When she wanted something from her daughter, she would call out for her, but Sapna did not give heed until Sakshi went to her and tapped on her shoulder. And it was that time again. Coming out of her reverie, Sapna threw tantrums before her mother for disturbing her.

"Ohfoo, Maa. Why do you always jolt me at the wrong time? I was about to sign the papers to book the flat in that high-rise building." Sapna yapped. Sakshi got confused and told her to stop daydreaming. "You wait. One day, I will make you feel proud," Sapna declared. Sakshi caressed her hair and told her, "My dear daughter, for now, come to the kitchen and help me clean the dishes, and close your wrong dreams in your dairy because we middle-class people are supposed to understand the limits and boundaries set by the society for us.

Sapna guffawed and was left with no choice, so she joined her mother in the kitchen. While doing dishes, Sakshi noticed Sapna was physically in the kitchen but mentally somewhere else. She nudged her, but getting no response, she let her be and continued with other chores. Crashhhh.... A glass plate slipped from Sapna's hand and turned into pieces after hitting the floor. Sakshi jumped and turned to face Sapna. "Where are you wondering? You ruined my dinner set." Sapna was timid and apologized. Sakshi told her to leave the kitchen and that she would manage her work.

Grabbing a broom, Sakshi swept the glass pieces and dumped the ruins of her favorite dinner set plate. With tears eyes, Sapna watched her mother from the corner of the kitchen door, hoping to get her a more beautiful dinner set.

Locking her tears in her words, Sapna started pouring her heart out in her notebook.

"They were laughing and clinking their champagne glasses in celebration as Naina finally bought her dream house. Her mother, Aruna, noticed there was some pain behind her daughter's smile. She excused Naina's friends and took her aside. She asked, "Darling, what is bothering you? I can see even after fulfilling your dream, you do not seem to feel contented." "Maa, I wish Dad was here with us to celebrate this day. I am missing him a little more," Naina admitted. "Awww, love. I am sure he is watching you from heaven and sending you all the love and blessings." Aruna assured her and cheered her up. Naina's friend Sumit came rushing towards her, and whispered in her ear, "Naina, we have a problem. Your cook just reported there is a fire in the kitchen area. One of the servants is stuck in the fire." "Whatttt?" Naina shouted at the top of her lungs. It worried her mother, but before she could ask fire alarms started ringing."

  1. This was such a beautifully woven contrast between dreams and reality! Sapna’s quiet determination and her mother’s practicality felt so real. And that transition into Naina’s story—seamless and gripping! Loved how emotions and ambition intertwined. Waiting to see where this goes! 🔥✨

  2. It’s so easy to get caught up in chasing dreams that might not be right for us. I love how this story reminds us to reflect and choose what truly aligns with our values.
