BlogchatterA2Z: Bullying In School

"See, the teacher's pet is coming," Vicky announced to his group as he saw Raghu entering the school gate. He laughed, and others joined him.

As Raghu crossed them, Bunty jumped before him, blocking his way. Raghu tried to get away trying to move from Bunty's left and then right, but he did not find the way, and they hurled him. Amidst the circle, they called him names, "Teacher's pet, chamcha, padhaku, rattu, and many more. Raghu covered his ears with his hands and pleaded with them to let him go, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

The morning bell rang, and Raghu assumed the torture would end. But, to his surprise, Bunty  Vicky saw their class teacher, Suresh coming in their direction, so he fled before the teacher could see and catch him, leaving behind his henchmen to face the teacher. Bunty was laughing when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He shrugged it off saying, "Boss, let me enjoy my time. See, his face, the drawing looked so funny." Hearing his words, Suresh turned Bunty around. Before Bunty could realize his presence, there was a tight slap on his face. The others ran away, while Raghu stood there timid and with tears flowing through his cheeks.

Bunty stood there embarrassed with his head down, trying to cover for himself. "Sir, it was not me,..." But before he could continue he realized everyone including Vicky left him alone to face the consequences even when everyone was equally responsible and was enjoying the banter in bullying innocent Raghu.

After asking Bunty to do sit ups until Suresh asked him to stop, Suresh cupped Raghu's face in his hands and told him to stop crying. Raghu's sobbing grew, and now Suresh felt irritated and reprimanded him. "Keep quiet, Raghu. You are not a kid. You should learn to fight. Nobody is going to rescue you every time," Suresh bashed. Raghu got terrified and immediately wiped his tears and whispered sorry for being timid.

Bunty was doing situps while his gang was watching him from the distance and laughing. Bunty's eyes shot a look at them and they ran towards the prayer ground. Suresh noticed Bunty discontinued situps and was looking in the opposite direction. He asked Bunty, "How are you feeling now?" Bunty apologized and requested him to let him go. Suresh warned him if he would bring all his friends before him, he would let him go. Bunty was taken aback and felt bad as he could not do what was asked by Suresh.

"Don't stop. Keep doing it, until you agree to get all your friends punished for this act." Suresh commanded. Holding remorse on his face Bunty continued to do sit ups, while Raghu walked to his class.

The sun was up, and it was bearable for Bunty after fifty sit ups, he called for Suresh, "Sir, I will tell the names, please let me go. I also have a request to not take my name." Suresh had a wicked smile and whispered, "Ab aya na unt pahad ke niche."

  1. Well written. Bullying is common these days in schools but it is not easy for sensitive people to get courage and report. That one nudge should come either by a close friend/ parent / teacher that we should never feel less of ourselves without doing any mistake.
