Onset of Winter

On November 15, when Tara woke up in the morning, her body was having goosebumps. She thought that might be due to the fan in her room that was on throughout the night, and since it was November, the mornings were chilly. She turned off the fan and still did not feel at ease with the atmosphere in her master bedroom with wooden flooring. She rose from bed and unveiled the curtain to find the water on the glass pane, making her realize, "Winter is here."

Sliding the balcony door, she noticed fog through the window in her closed balcony, losing the visibility of the tower opposite her room. It was covered in fog, and she could barely see the trees which used to dance before her eyes every morning. Realizing she did not get her winter wears out, she thought to add it to her to-do list as she kept forgetting about it for the past week, and now she had no time to push it as it would be difficult for her to stay in her summer t-shirts and capris.

Tara closed the slider door of her balcony and went to the washroom to freshen up before she started her workout, which lasted barely 30-35 minutes. With music on, she did some basic stretching and strength training exercises to train her arms. After finishing her workout, she went to the balcony again to fetch the towel, and her workout clothes made her feel the chills in the air. She shut the door as fast as possible and went to take a bath.

Not ready to feel the cold, she left her room and went to the kitchen. A chill ran down her spine, making her jump due to coldness. Tara returned to her room and immediately looked for something in her messy wardrobe, a room for every apparel suiting summers. Luckily, she found a windcheater of her tracksuit. She wore it over her t-shirt and went out in the kitchen feeling much more relaxed and ready to cook her meal.

Soaking rice in one bowl and yellow dal in another, she returned to her room to make her bed, utilizing the time till either dal or rice was ready to be cooked. After fifteen minutes, she went to the kitchen and put the cooker on gas filled with dal, water, and salt for the taste to bring it to boil till the whistle blew. She took a tomato, one onion, and green chili and chopped them one by one in her newly bought pigeon chopper except for the green chili that she chopped using a knife.

She pulled the towel from the chair on her balcony and went to the bathroom to freshen up and get ready for the day. Whether she worked from home or the office, she would follow her routine and sit before her laptop, staring at it sharply at 10 p.m. after eating breakfast and holding a cup of black coffee in her hand with her eyeballs on her mail.

The day was too hectic with multiple tasks assigned to her with the wintry chills, making her wrap herself in a blanket and build a cozy atmosphere to read her current book. But how could she overlook her work against her passion? So, finally, she decided to search for a pullover from her cupboard, still loaded with summer clothing. After searching for a good ten minutes, she found a bag with a minimal full-sleeved sweater that could help her to work without feeling cold.

The whole day flew by, and it was already six in the evening when she realized she had not prepared her content to post on Instagram. She got up and dressed in suitable clothes to shoot the content and managed to record a 30-second video around confessions. After editing the video, she felt skeptical about posting it, feeling it showed her vulnerability, and wondered if she was ready to share that. And her teams started ringing, distracting her from her train of thought. She sat for a call that lasted for an hour, and it was 7:30 by then, and she closed her work and went to cook for dinner, forgetting about posting.

After preparing and eating dinner, she was scrolling through Instagram and was reminded of the content she shot in the evening. Now, she was no more confused and posted the reel on Instagram without a second thought. It started getting the engagement that she had not expected. She played her favorite song on a loop and went to the balcony. She noticed that the night ambiance from her balcony appeared perfect, with the kids playing on swings and trees dancing in the tone of the breeze. She longed to stand there and watch the moon, but soon, the winds turned more chilly as the night turned darker. She came back to her room and picked up her book to read bed covered in her blanket with her night lamp on the bedside table, and her day ended with her getting to sleep with her book lying by her side open at the page where she left reading before falling asleep that read, "And they lived happily after."
