Tara Tandon’s life is spiralling out of control. Her latest dark fantasy romance featuring werewolves has sparked an outrage over social media, leaving her confidence in tatters. Soon her curiosity is piqued by media reports of a string of brutal murders in Goa that have given rise to rumours about a legendary creature on the prowl. The victims were all young women found viciously mauled and ripped apart. Seeking creative inspiration, Tara heads to the coastal town – only to find herself trapped in a real-life nightmare.

Determined to get to the bottom of the killings, Tara teams up with Sunny, a cop suspended for digging too deep into the local tragedy. Meanwhile, a mysterious stranger seduces her into a dangerous attraction reminiscent of her own fantasy novels. As more strange events unfold, Tara is plunged into Goa’s underbelly – spiritual cults, occult rituals and dark secrets, all cleverly concealed beneath the town’s sun-soaked beaches and vibrant trance parties.

Now this sinister world is threatening to shut her in, and she begins to realize that nothing – and no one – is as it seems …

Review

Kritika Kapoor's Wolfish delves into the dark realm of supernatural elements, blurring the line between reality and fantasy. The plot flows through the clubs of Goa and offers readers numerous turns and twists, surprising them. Through the life of Tara Tandon, a dark fantasy romance novelist, readers will explore the real-life horror story where she falls in love and unfolds a dreadful series of murders happening in the name of a mysterious creature like a wolf.

The character development is well-crafted in this book. The complex and multi-faceted characters will allow readers to relate with them. Tara, a flawed character who turned out resilient and vulnerable, will reflect determination and eagerness to conquer what she wants.

The author's writing style is phenomenal. She portrays a haunting atmosphere with her words that will set readers to imagine the beaches of Goa. The vivid descriptions of the island's lush landscapes and vibrant nightlife create a contrast to the dark and disturbing events that unfold in the story. She touched upon multiple dark themes, such as obsession, violence, and the blurred lines between love and madness. The author's resolute portrayal of these themes makes the novel both disturbing and thought-provoking.

The pacing may seem inconsistent in the middle part of the story, disturbing the momentum of the reading experience, but the readers who stick to the book till the end will find themselves biting their nails to know what comes next. It is a bit predictable in a few parts, yet the overall experience of reading this book is fulfilling.

This captivating read will appeal to the fans of horror and dark fantasy. The storytelling and vivid description by the author truly create an unforgettable reading experience.
