Review
It is a fantasy novella but it is not limited to it. It explores the themes of love, loss, identity, belonging, hidden truths, deceiving and hope.
The story unfolds in an imaginary world of the author's creativity, "Murkwood," with a glimpse of the scene of a kingdom. The plot is at a steady pace with character development initially. The novella revolves around the life and struggles of the protagonist, the princess of Murkwood. As the story ascends with a tragedy, the plot intensifies with turning pages.
The character development is commendable. Readers will find it comfortable to connect with characters even after so many of them. With distinct characters, the author maintained distinguishable features in all. Readers will feel connected with them as the author embeds them with grief-stricken, tussling for identity, resilience, gullibility, cleverness, etc.
Being a fantasy novella, readers will love the world-building of the Murkwood kingdom and Shadowland. The author precisely maintained her imagination to let readers feel the essence of the story in their surroundings while reading it. The rich details and evocative descriptions of two parallel worlds will let readers immerse themselves in outlandish surroundings. Also, unlike other fantasy novels, there is a pinch of romance amidst the perils of the Shadowland and survival.
The author's writing style is engaging and evocative. Her vision of plotting the dual worlds of humans and shadows will keep readers with the book till the end. At some point, the story seems slow-paced and monotonous, which may distract readers. But, the author's art to enter with a twist and turn will keep readers hitched with the book till the end. In the last part of the book, where the real thrill begins, the climax, readers won't be able to put the book down before finishing it.
Readers looking forward to diving into the adventure with the themes of self-discovery, hidden truths and powers, and a world so captivating that every reader wishes to witness should try this book.
