7 Day Writing Challenge: Will they be together forever?

Students' chatter and laughter could be heard from a distance when Ria entered the school's main door with books clutched tightly in her hands. She wore the nineteenth-century wristwatch inherited from her grandfather on her left wrist. It was her first day at college. She was nervous and excited about starting a new phase of her life.

Ria walked confidently in her high heels and black bodycon dress. She did not realize all eyes were on her as she walked towards her classroom. Not only boys but girls were in awe of her look. It was a fan moment for her that she did not recognize. After finding her classroom, she sat on the first bench as her usual topper self. She arranged her books for the first period. Soon, the professor entered the class. 

Everybody stood to greet the lecturer. The class began with the introduction of the teacher and the students. As Ria's turn came, all eyes were on her again. She spoke in a soft voice, mesmerizing every ear in the class. Amongst all the students, one boy named Rits kept his eyes on Ria even after she finished introducing herself, and the professor caught him. He silently walked to his seat, and everybody in the lecture hall turned behind to see what entertainment was coming for them.

The professor took enough time for Rits to come to his senses, but he kept sitting with his hand on the bench and face on his palm. Soon, the teacher tapped on his bench, jolting him. Rits got up in his place and started, "My name is Rits. I am from Dehradun. I have completed my schooling from Canterbury Bells School." Everybody burst into laughter, along with the teacher. Rits saw this with a confused face when the professor tapped on his head, asking what he was thinking. 

He realized his turn finished long back, and the professor caught him staring at the girl on the first bench. He felt embarrassed and mentioned I was trying to focus on getting to know everyone in my class so that we could all feel at ease, as it was the first time for everyone away from home. The professor spared him for this time and walked to the podium. 

Rits whispered, "Thank God the professor did not poke much."

After the long day at college, it was time to go to the hostels. Ria went to her locker to keep the books she would not require at the hostel and collect her mobile phone. As she was about to shut the locker, she did not notice her left hand with wristwatch was on the corner of the locker, and she closed it. She screamed. It was a shabby locker, and it hurt her. More than physically, it injured her emotionally. Somehow, she managed to take off her hand. 

Rits was watching this scene, hiding behind the other side of the locker. Ria felt shattered as she saw the glass of her wristwatch broke. She started crying, holding it and clearing glass pieces. Rits rushed to her to see what happened. As she saw him, she wiped her tears and got up to walk in the opposite direction. He shouted, "Hey!"

She did not stop until he ran towards her and stood before her. He offered her his pack of peppermints, from which he took one for himself. She saw the pack and then him and nodded. He insisted her to at least take one, and she grabbed it. He asked what made her cry. She was in pain, so she mentioned that her precious watch broke. He saw the watch and started laughing that she was crying because her shabby watch broke. 

It irritated her, and she started walking again. Rits tried to apologize and questioned her why that watch was so precious. She mentioned inheriting her wristwatch from her grandfather, and Rits's eyes glowed in respect. He asked her for the watch and told her to join him. He would get it repaired for her. She felt perplexed and thought, why would he help her? She denied it, but he was firm in his decision and snatched the watch from her hand. 

Rits started walking with her watch, and she had to join him. They went to a nearby market to get the watch repaired. It was an old shop where all antique watches were available. Ria felt amazed on seeing the shop and variety. Rits handed the watch to the shop owner, asking him, "Chacha, please fix this watch for my friend. It is precious."

Within no time, he repaired the watch and handed it to Ria. Ria was jumping, seeing her watch fixed. She hugged Rits in a rush of emotion. He felt shy and scratched his head. Soon, she realized what she had done and stepped back. She paid the shopkeeper and returned with Rits to campus.

Rits walked her to her hostel. While walking, both were silent, but it was a sign of love blossoming between them. They hideously saw each other while walking until their eyes met, and they stopped. They decided to sit on the nearby bench as they were on campus, so there would not be any problem roaming around. They started talking and giggling when Rits held her hand and took her to a place nobody could see them.

Lost in each other's eyes, they saw a glitter, and coming closer, they kissed passionately. It took them thirty seconds to come to reality. They were blushing but did not leave each other's hands and talked eye to eye. Soon, it was time to return to the hostel as it was dark, and the girls were not allowed to stay out after 7 p.m.

They walked to Ria's hostel hand in hand. Rits was reluctant to let her go. Ria, too, resisted. The lady guard interrupted their moment and ordered Ria to move to the hostel.

"Will they be together forever, or was it an infatuation?"
