Blogchatter A2Z: Unemployment

With the rise of unfairness, companies started following a new trend, "Let's lay off."

Rahul and his colleague Rohan were sitting in the cafeteria of their office building discussing the layoffs, shaking them and affecting people, including their friends and acquaintances. While sipping coffee, they overheard a coworker, Sonu, talking about company management's plan to lay off from their company soon.

They looked at each other in surprise but did not dare to reach out to that person for details. Rahul and Rohan sat quietly, putting all ears to the layoff news. But Sonu's friends noticed other employees in the cafeteria and asked him to stop, as people would start spreading rumors. Confused, Rahul and Rohan got up from their chairs and ran to their group to break the news.

When they shared layoff news with other friends, one of the friends told them I heard that too. HR is my friend. She told me the company prepared a list of 200 employees who would get laid off. He also told them layoff depended on the managers' feedback. It terrified them even more. Things changed after that day. Work pressure spiked, and everyone started pushing their limits so that layoffs did not affect them.

After a month, emails popped up in the morning stating,

Dear employee,

We hope this email finds you well. It is to inform you that your tenure with our company is ending. You have two choices. Either serve an official notice period or take the compensation and get early relief.

This step is in accordance with cost-cutting, and we believe you will cooperate with us.

Regards

Admin

Rahul and Rohan did not receive this email but came to know about it from their friends who received the email. It shook them. They double-checked their emails but felt they did not find the layoff email.

Their friends asked for their advice and decided to take compensation and started their search for a new job. But the job market was down, and it took them six months to land a new job.
