Blogchatter A2Z: Prejudice

Ritu resumed her work after six months of maternity leave. She felt excited and energized. After all, she was now a mother. The glow on her face was visible. She cheerfully greeted everyone she met. On her designated cubicle, she noticed greeting cards, best wishes, and chocolates on her desk. Her team welcomed her wholeheartedly. It showed how much they missed her.

Seeing their team lead back, Ritu's team herded around her cubicle, and there was chit-chat. But, Ritu suggested celebrating in the pantry at lunch break and resuming work. The team agreed, and everybody was at their work desk within a few minutes. The day started with daily meetings, and everybody briefed Ritu about the work done and the new deadlines.

Everything went smoothly, and during lunch, as planned, they celebrated and cheered for Ritu. While Ritu and her team were enjoying, Ritu heard somebody whispering at the other table, "She is back. I heard she delivered a baby. How can she be so careless and celebrate like this, leaving her baby behind?" Damn! Ritu could not stop but laugh and went to their table.

Ritu said, "Excuse me, here I am, talk to me. You want to discuss about me, right? I am here. Please tell me what I should do and what not. And I will take your advice and dump it into the dustbin." It left them in surprise. They stood at their place. While Ritu was talking with them, everybody noticed and gathered around. It was embarrassing for the back bitchers. Before Ritu could say further, her subordinates asked if everything was fine.

She did not wish to create a scene, so she told them to continue their lunch. But she also wanted to break the stereotypes, so she decided to answer the people talking about her.

Ritu said, "Are you even literate? Your thinking suggests that you are from that group of people about whom parents warn their kids (Log Kya Kahenge). You do not only pull the woman back but dig the grave of your growth. So, please eat your lunch. Please stop wasting time worrying about me and my baby."

  1. Good job, Ritu! Put those 'chaar log' in their place and also teach women/people to take a stand and not mind what such busybodies have to say about our personal lives and choices

    1. Recently I found those chaar log in my team too hahahha. Having a hairfall so sometimes my chair would attract them too, so those people started making fun and it reminded me of the #ad we see for shampoos for anti dandruff and hairfall
