Blogchatter A2Z: Nepotism

The corporate loop is vicious and deceiving at times. In a company named MisBing, employees run the company like people in a democratic country. Though the hierarchical setup was there, the company's CEO Raghav maintained the stature of implementing the policies, considering the benefits of the employees as the first parameter.

One day, as the CEO's son, Arjun, struggled to excel in his career, he chose to designate him a leadership post despite his experience and skills, canceling the promotion of the deserving employee Aaru.

Aaru could not bear it as she worked diligently for the company for five years. She tried to talk to her manager, but he did not entertain her. Aaru reached out to HR, but he also told her to focus on her work if she needed a promotion. Her performance did not match the promoted candidate's experience and skills. She asked HR about the promoted candidate. When she heard the name, she whispered, "Nepotism is now a part of corporate too."

The HR tried to calm her down, but she left without exchanging another word. She went to her cubicle and worked for the day. When she returned home, she decided to raise her plea before the Board of Directors as the CEO's true face should come forward. The person who followed the mantra of "company by employee, company for employee, and company of employee" was playing with her career growth.

The next day, when she reached the office, she bumped into Arjun and murmured, "So, he is the one who grabbed my promotion forcefully." Arjun said, "Excuse me, did you say something?" Aaru nodded and left in anger. Arjun could not understand as he was unaware that the position he received was hers.

There was a team meeting with the new leader, Arjun. Aaru also joined. When Arjun addressed the subordinates, he stammered and spoke in broken sentences. Aaru understood he did not have an experience in leadership. After the meeting, she decided to find out about his professional experience. When she looked into his profile, she came to know he was an ex-employee of one of the MNCs with an experience of two years. While digging more, she found he got kicked out of the company due to his performance.

She decided to talk to HR again, stating the facts, but HR did not deter. Aaru told HR that she would resign from her current role as she could not work in a company where her determination and dedication did not receive respect. The HR could not do anything except accept her resignation.

With the rise of Nepotism, the company lost a skilled and talented employee.
