7 Day Writing Challenge: An Invited Trouble

In the gentle embrace of the daylight, the house of two twins, Mia and Sia, awakened with their tantrums to not go to school. Mrs Sati, a mom on duty, tried everything to tempt them to go to school, but they did not change their minds.

Mia is a soft-hearted and innocent girl, while Sia is notorious and a kid. But today, it seemed Sia's soul also impacted Mia. Both were behaving annoyingly, as her mother described to their father. It was their dad's turn to convince them to go to school. He tried to be humorous and engaging while talking with them, opposite to their mom. She frowned at her husband for being so effortless with the girls, as she knew it was challenging to convince them today until a miracle happened.

Mrs. Sati's phone rang with a WhatsApp message notification. While Mr. Sati tried to convince Mia and Sia, Mrs Sati announced it was Riya's birthday today, and her mom invited the girls for a birthday bash in the evening at their place. Mia and Sia tapped on their forehead, saying how could we miss that looking at each other?

So, will you girls get ready for school or will you miss the party in the evening? Both, in unison, shouted I would go first and rushed to the washroom. Soon, their parents heard them crying and yelling at each other. They ran in the direction of the washroom to calm them down. Separating Mia and Sia, Mrs Sati told them one of you go to this washroom, and the other can use our room's bathroom. Even before anybody would take any action, Sia went inside when Mrs Sati was addressing them. Mia gave up and went to her parent's room to use their washroom.

Mia and Sia spent enough time in the shower washing their hair because they wished to look their best at Riya's party after school. They got ready and ate their breakfast. Mrs Sati packed their lunch boxes while the girls were getting ready. After finishing everything, they took their bags. They came to Mr Sati, telling him, "Dad, let's go to school."

Mr Sati saw them in bafflement. He told their mother to accompany them to the bus stop as he had to get ready. Both looked at each other and then their dad said (in unison), "What? You told us you will drop us by car." Mr Sati replied, "Yes, because you were not getting ready for school. But now I can see you wish to go to school. Let's keep it for some other day." He giggled.

Mia and Sia felt annoyed and walked out of the house with Mrs Sati. They waited for five minutes, and the school bus arrived. Getting onto the bus, they saw Riya waiting for them at the gate. They hugged her tightly and wished her "Happy Birthday." The chattering and laughter of the trio echoed in the bus. The bus ride was smooth but long as the bus had to take other students from nearby areas.

The trio went hand-in-hand to the classroom. After keeping bags on their three-seater bench, they went to the playground. They played games like ice and water until the assembly bell rang. They went to the queue of their class, but Riya had to stand on the stage as it was her birthday with other students who had a birthday on the same day. Everybody will sing a birthday song for them before the national anthem.

The prayer started following the pledge and activities like speech, the thought of the day, and then wishing birthdays to all the students standing on the stage. The assembly concluded with the national anthem. Students moved to their respective classes.

As the ritual of distributing sweets to the class and all teachers, Riya brought chocolates for teachers and toffees for her entire class. She found it challenging to choose whom to take along, so she requested to send both Mia and Sia with her to her teacher. Before going out, Riya distributed toffees to her classmates and handed chocolate to her teacher, who blessed her.

The trio roamed around the school to distribute chocolates to all teachers, and Riya received blessings. After returning, they took their seats and continued with what the teacher was teaching. After the first half, they had lunch and discussed the evening plan. Soon, the school was over, and they headed to the bus to return home.

Mia and Sia rushed to their house straight from the bus. They had their lunch and started decluttering their cupboards to find an outfit for the party. Their mom was watching them and enjoying the scene. After much effort, she went to their cupboards and chose the outfits for them, and they were happy with her choice.

They dressed like Barbie dolls and asked their mom to drop them to Riya's house. It was a five-minute ride to Riya's house. As they reached and bid bye to their mother, Riya greeted them from behind and took them inside.

Sia always heard Ria bragging about her closet, adored with beautiful dresses, hair accessories, jewelry, and footwear. She sneaked out to Riya's room and headed to her wardrobe. When Sia unlocked the closet, her mouth opened in surprise at the shine of Riya's dresses, sparkling jewelry, and colorful footwear. Before she could mesmerize her eyes with brilliance, she heard Riya and Mia calling out for her. Sia listened to their footsteps approaching and decided to go into the closet. She locked herself inside, and the key fell on the floor, making a ringing sound.

Mia and Riya came to Riya's room to hear the sound but could not notice the key, so they left, searching for Mia in other rooms in the house. Mia felt immoral about her act and thought about ways to get out of the closet without others letting anyone know.

Will Sia venture to call out for help?

  4. Suspense is the essence of the story and is represented by Sia's brash reaction to hide herself in Riya's closet unexpectedly. Readers are left in a challenging position as to what Sia will finally decide to do between obtaining help or going further with her curiosity. Excitement is taking over as I can’t wait to see how this story develops. chalo batao ab aagey kya?
