Blogchatter Half Marathon - Finding Balance (Work-Life)

Finding balance, what does it mean?

It means building a life that reflects your passion, values, and aspirations aligned with your time and energy.

You often miss the balance between your work and life due to hassle. With time, this equilibrium, instead of setting, deteriorates. It is a long process to thrive, so it becomes a necessary duty of every human to take care of it.

How to Find Balance?

Did you go to buy vegetables or fruits anytime in the market? I am sure you know the crucial role equilibrium plays. If the balance gets above or below, your finances change. Similarly, life is precious, and an imbalance can adversely affect you.

So, let's find out the balance.

  1. Work and Life are Complementary

Before it is too late, understand the relationship between work and life. It is okay that either of them needs more attention sometimes, but eventually, both go hand in hand.

What does complementary mean here? Often, if you recall, you crib work for affecting your personal life. Eventually, your life gets disturbed. So, complementary is to give equal significance to work and life. You have to understand the priorities of both.

Accordingly, the same happens at work when your emotions are not under control.

So, work and life come together. If you are happy in your employment, you will manage things according to your life. Likewise, staying cheerful in your life gets you along at your job. You are required to integrate them and not separate them as different entities.

  1. Establish Fixed Boundaries

As mentioned above, work and life are complementary. So, you are required to set some boundaries for each of them. When you are at work, your emotional imbalance should not affect it. You always have the choice to take a break. It is better to rest for some time to heal and recover to stay calm at job.

At times, work commitments are uncertain. You have responsibilities in life that you cannot postpone. It becomes challenging to tackle such a situation. But for this, if your determination rules, you can make both work (life and job). How?

If you are an employee, you get enough leave to manage things. Suppose you work on weekends, and it disturbs your routine. Check for the policy of comp-off. Get an extra day out of your leave to do as you decide.

If you are an employer, you can also be stuck in such situations where your meeting cannot get postponed. In such scenarios, to make it, finish your work and follow life as you decide.

These were the cases where you had to choose work, coming to situations where you had to say no politely. If your life choice is demanding, refuse to work on weekends and after office hours, giving a reason if work is urgent. Being an employer, postpone the meeting as per your schedules.

  1. Choose Excellence, Not Quantity

Usually, you focus on hours spent instead of how well you consumed. It is never fulfilling to depend on several hours for life or work.

If you are a 9-5 employee, you understand it. Even if you do not have work, you complete that 8-9 hours duty out of obligation. Ask yourself how much help it gives in excelling at your work. Your answer will be in negation. Why not spend that time on personal development?

Look for quality and not quantity. When you work on yourself, whether upskilling or pursuing a hobby, did you ever get anything of use by spending long hours on the same thing instead of doing it in parts with regular breaks?

As you get your answer, it will reflect in your work and life balance.

  1. Celebrate Both Personal and Professional Successes

It is the most essential virtue of finding balance. Your job or career does not restrict you to celebrate only professional achievements. You require equal celebration of your pursuits in life.

It keeps you motivated and happy. It gives you multiple chances to celebrate your group of friends. And to hustle, you have to stay consistent. It comes when you acknowledge your accomplishments. Never miss an opportunity to honor your successes.

Wrapping Up

Finding balance is a critical aspect of life. Most of you suffer due to this imbalance because there is an image created that work-life balance is not possible. But saying so does not make it so. You are required to understand your work and life demands. Take action accordingly and not based on preachers out there.

"Work and life, ever thought they could be friends."
