Blogchatter A2Z: Youth Unemployment

With the advent of Covid, the IT industry boomed. People received jobs with more than the expected compensation. Life was smooth with families living together. Though the outer chaos hurt people, living with loved ones came as a savior. As the situation started improving, the offices began reopening and called the employees back to the office. Those who refused to return lost their jobs, leading to mass unemployment.

Sharad, a 26-year-old, got a job offer in 2021 amidst the peak of COVID-19. He felt elated, and his family received support in harsh times. He got affected by COVID-19 but managed his work and health. With time, he made a good reputation in his company. But in 2023, he received shocking news. The company was restarting work from the office by the end of the year. By then, not just he but everyone around was habitual of working from home, and nobody was ready to join back.

After talking to his friends, he realized the job market was not doing well. A few of his friends were unemployed. They were actively looking for a job opportunity. Sharad told them about his situation but got scolded by one of his friends, Raghav. Raghav informed him about the statistics of youth unemployment and layoffs. It was shocking for Sharad to realize he could not resign without a job offer, as the market was unstable. But if he returned to work from the office, it would be challenging to attend interviews.

Sharad went to his parents and broke the news. His father tried to explain the scenarios and circumstances of living in this world. He told Sharad that he had to mold himself to fit into the culture or find a better way according to his convenience. For a few days, Sharad gave it a thought and decided to return to his workplace. But returning did not come as pleasant news because after a month, the company decided to lay off following the trend in the name of cost-cutting, and Sharad was affected by that layoff.

  1. That's so sad that despite deciding to adjust to the company policy of working from office, Sharad was laid off
