Gratitude, what is it? How does it matter to stay positive with all the negativity around?
I always felt gratitude for being positive all the time. But, no, my friend, it is beyond that. It is accepting what belongs to you and embracing good things. There are several myths centered around practicing daily gratitude. I will come to it. Before that, let me tell you what gratitude is.
Gratitude is to be thankful for your blessings and appreciate kindness. Since childhood, parents try to introduce good habits in their kids. One of them is to teach words like thank you, sorry, please, and welcome. It is what we tell someone to explain the meaning of gratitude in simple terms.
But with time, gratitude appears lost and misunderstood in many ways. Those who emphasize it are termed fools or selfish. It is due to several myths developed with the development of gratitude practice. Even today, people who understand the value of a good culture teach their kids to show gratitude and count their blessings. So, for those who think gratitude is preachy, let me unfold the myths.
Gratitude is to be always positive: Yes, it is, but acknowledging both favorable and poor aspects. So, nobody is asking you to forget your adverse effects because you have to overcome them.
Gratitude is for when you win big: Absolutely no! Gratitude is for everything you achieve, from getting up in your home on your bed to receiving daily food on your plate.
Gratitude is for one day: Do you eat once and satisfy your appetite for a healthy life in a day? I bet your answer is no. So, how can you wonder if gratitude is a one-time process?
